Rainy Day Thoughts

The romance of the holiday season is in the air. The air is getting solder, the rain is beginning to storm outside.. and you begin to look around for someone to keep you nice and warm.

I am taking a step back from he fashion posts and schedules, this rainy Sunday(well for me), and getting into the dreamy state I find myself around this time of year. This weekend sent me straight for the candles that smell like love, a hot coco, and the warmest blanket I can find. With Thanksgiving( for the US) and Christmas( if you celebrate) fast approaching the season of my dreams is just around the corner. There is nothing like seeing the smiles of your loved ones and making the spiced alcoholic drinks that make your bellies warm and your mind just a little fuzzy.

This time of year sparks something inside of me that I suddenly become a hopeless romantic. Which most of the year I am the farthest thing from it. All I want to do is drink warm drinks, read a good book and cuddle by the fire with someone special. I don't know about you.. but a warm body sometimes just makes everything a little better. You may disagree, being that strong independent person that you may need, the "i don't need nobody" type. But the holidays is suppose to be spent with those you love and care about, whether blood or non blood family. SO .. I encourage all of you to make this time about other people, and fall into the magical time of being loved and love others. With the rain falling outside, and my hands freezing as I am sitting here typing at my computer it all really got me thinking. I have always been one to love this time of the year, from the weather to the music. I know not everyone out there may have the same feelings, but I want to be the light in their life to turn that Grinch mentality to something Cindy LuHoo would be proud of. With all the weird and dark things going on in the world right now having something to look forward to or think about that is positive is super important. Share the love with those around you, bake something, make someone smile when they are having an awful day. Pass on the happiness and love to those who may need it the most, even if it is small.  Try to make someone laugh, cook some dinner for someone or just go see a movie.

If you are a frequent blogger than you may or may not hear that a lot from other bloggers. I don't even consider myself one. But I thought I would send those caring and romantic vibes out into the world so you know that despite me having no idea who you may be or your history, I just want to wish you a happy and warm holiday season despite what ever holiday you may believe in.

Hey Dolls! and maybe some guys.... to the people of the anonymous internet.

Here is the posting schedule I came up with in order to have the best and most fulfilled post for all of you who decided to start reading this crazy adventure.

My two main posts will be Sunday and Wednesday nights; meaning probably in the 9,10, 11 PM region do to the fact I have a day job, and writers block hits at the most inconvenient moments. Which means I will be reaching your beautiful eyes, and trying to make you laugh, at the beginning and middle of your weeks. That way A) you won't miss anything important, and still have a social life. And B) I can still have a social life and my posts won't become boring. ( Not that they aren't already). This whole blogging thing is all very new to me, and the winging it process is uhm well not so new. I have no idea if anyone even decided to read this whole endeavor of mine. Either way Sunday and Wednesday are going to be the all access, putting out all the stuff that I can come up with out there. That way you can start your wonderful ( not so wonderful) work weeks with a nice hit of a crazy wine drinking pinup; while also having a nice hump day treat of just the same.

oh oh ! I almost forgot! Don't forget to comment with questions, or shoot me something with inquiries. I am pretty good at responding, if I remember to hit send button after I type something out. I am going to create an email soon for bookings as well. All will come to pass in the future.

Here are a few of my favorite things...

CLICK ME !

I LOVE MUSICALS!

First response would probably be a long the lines of "what the hell".. Well you are in luck! This post has nothing to do with my undying love for Movie Musicals and Broadway. Whether you grew up loving musicals, or for some reason you have a resounding hate for them, we all know that Sound of Music is a classic. Now you can admit that Julia Andrews is a dream, and you want to whisk your way to Germany and Austria. But I digress... This post is a little insight in a few of my favorite places  to get my pinup clothing, hair products I use to style my hair, and some of my top make up brands I use in front or every day life.  Woo that is a lot to go over.. but away we go !

First things first ! CLOTHING..
One can't just walk out the house naked( well we hope). Pin-Up fashion is diverse and there are many sub group among the community, but that is another post down the road.  I personally fall into the more modern interpretation of a classic 1940/50s look. Lots of swing dresses and skirts, pin stripe stockings and victory curls. I wear a lot of fun patterns and different cuts in order to have a kiche vibe to how I present my style. Occasionally there is a vampy side, but that is for special occasions. In terms of locations of where I get all my goodies, if you don't feel like driving down to Burbank, or flying out to California, online is the way to go.

Some of the top places are as follows:

Unique Vintage:
http://www.unique-vintage.com/

Pinup Girl Clothing:
https://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/

Doll Me Up:
http://www.dollmeupdarling.com/

Pigtails and Pirates:
http://www.pigtailsandpirates.com/

Steady Clothing:
http://www.steadyclothing.com/

Zulily: They sometimes have great one day sales of Pinup brands
http://www.zulily.com/

Heart of Haute:
http://www.heartofhaute.com/

These are just to name a few, the list is really endless. You can find brands on their own websites, through third party sellers, conferences and meet ups. They are absolutely all over the place, which is awful for your wallet. Most if not all are great have having sales and promo codes, but most are gonna range in the 50s-100s when it comes to pricing. The deals are out there you just have to search for them a little. I have a few go to brands that I tend to wear more often than not, since they fit my body type. I have a curvy body that even grandma asks where I got them. So I tend to like things that fit in my waist, hold all the girls in place and not hug un wanted rolls. Some of these brands include Bernie Dexter, Heart of Haute, The Oblong Box, Unique Vintage Brand, and Rock Steady. Shoes range in size and I have a little bit of an obsession so I am not even going to jump off that ledge until asked.

Now for the fun stuff HAIR and MAKEUP!
Beyond clothing I definitely spend a lot of time doing my hair and make up. For Hair I use the usual drug store brands. Batiste for dry shampoo, Big Sexy Hair hair spray, and store bought teasing combs and brushes. I do occasionally use woman pomade to help sculpt particular hair styles, that is mostly for extra hold, for that I use Suavicita .  I use the every day standard curling irons 3/4 inch and 5/8th, both purchased at CVS pharmacy. I have yet to really experiment with leave in curlers, but that will be a fun fiasco for later. The less money you spend on efficient hair supplies the more money you can spend on the important  things, like makeup!

Make up is like paint, you can blend colors, match tones, bring out and hide features. Based on my collection I  could paint for an entire art museum, one could say I may have a makeup addiction. I shop at palaces like Sephora and Ulta to gather most of my makeup collection. But once I found the brands that work best for me I buy directly from their websites and retailers. Some of the top brands that I wear are Urban Decay and Estee Lauder for foundation (but honestly that changes) , contour kits from Anastasia Beverly Hills and Kat Von Dee, blush from all over the spectrum( same with Highlighters), and liquid lipsticks from Jeffree Starr Cosmetics. But the best part about all of it, is you can change things up! You can try new brands and new combinations of things and live a little. Part of the fun.. well most of the fun is the trial and error period. Some may disagree about the error part, and there will be a lot, but part of learning is getting out there and trying new things. I was a self taught make up fiend, no one in my family really taught me or even allowed to wear make up for most of my life. I didn't start really experimenting until my now sister-in-law came into the picture. Her addiction and experimentation eventually started rubbing off on me and well the rest is history. Now it is one of my talents I am most proud of, that and my ability to tease the living life force out of my hair to make it high and sculpted. The higher the hair the closer to heaven.. or so they say. There will be more details on the step by steps that I take to produce some of my looks but this post has gone on forever and you probably got bored a few years ago, I mean words ago. So with that I say , don't hestitate to contact me with questions or if you want to share your finds! I am happy to be a fellow pinup sister.

Let me introduce myself...

You are probably reading this and asking yourself, who on earth is this woman, and why should I care about reading some word on the inter web. Well let me take this opportunity to introduce myself.

Hey Guys and Dolls!

My name is Stephanie, aka Miss Bettie Bookworm. Bakers Daughter, Drunken Italian Man's niece, wine aficionado, and avid book hoarder. A small town girl , that made it out yet oddly enough  went full circle and ended up back at the beginning. For a woman only in her 20s I have had man job titles, and that's only the beginning of my working career. Still working on what my next steps will be when it comes to jobs, careers, or just making money to survive; all I know is working hard not matter the job is important, and generally being a kind person will help you market yourself to make moves. Enough of that, let me get back to talking about myself, like I am creating my dating profile.

For as long as I can remember there has been  odd obsession flowing through my soul that I can't help but resonate with a few past decades. The  1940s, 50s' and the early 60s continue to describe me; from my personality and fashion choices, to my taste in movies to watch. The concept of an old soul has never felt so real until you ask me what would be my go to music choice to make myself feel better after a long day. I know many of you will roll your eyes and think that is such a cliche; but when you know all the words to Frank Sinatra songs, and turn on swing music to cook a meal to there is something that just lights up within a person that truly loves an era. Yes, I will admit, there is no era that is great, and there is a term of Golden Age Syndrome I believe, where one believe other decades are better than others, but go ahead and hate me for trying to bleed a past life with a more evolved present.

An old soul with a desperate need to be creative led me to decide to take the ever ridiculous leap and start something such as this...  A Blog. I stick my toes in many different lakes, ponds and oceans of creativity and decided to combine them in one place. Whether it's a free writing rant, a photo montage, pin-up tips /tricks and style choices or just discussing a new book I have read, only time will tell. With that, I will finish the wordy introduction for now, and only time and the patients will allow you into this pin-ups personality.
